Saturday, January 12, 2008Merged Website and Blog TemplatesI have merged the blog template and the website template to create a common look and feel for all Project Mechanics sites. At the same time, I have started to use the Yahoo User Interface library more in my work. So far, I am a big fan of the YUI CSS classes. I have also had good luck with the TABS and MENU. I plan on doing more with this framework as I get time. Here is a link to learn more about this framework. Wednesday, November 07, 2007Posting From Microsoft WordI have finally installed the new MS Office and wanted to test out the integration with blogger.com. So, this is a post from MS Word 2007 Monday, November 27, 2006Google Apps on FrogsfollyWednesday, October 25, 2006Publish from Windows Live Writer
Here is a post from Windows Live Writer! Tuesday, January 24, 2006Move Back To US, Retire .co.uk
I have moved back to the United States and will no longer maintain the ProjectMechanics.co.uk website. We had a great time in England and hope to be back often.
Thursday, April 07, 2005GanttProject and the PM PortalI recently found a project on source forge which is 100% java based and does a very good job of generating Gantt charts. It uses an XML based file system to store all information on the project. It allows you to work on one project at a time, but given the ease of use and extensive reporting features, it is worth a look. Given the XML based file system used by GanttProject, I have modified the XML file generated by my PM Portal tool (currently shelved) to support GanttProject. I can create an export from the PM Portal and open the file in GanttProject. The big advantage of this new functionality is the ability to generate reports in HTML, RTF, and PDF formats. I am evaluating a bi-directional interface, but for now it is one way only. Passed the PMP ExamI am now a full fledged PMP according to the Project Management Institute (www.PMI.org). I passed my exam yesterday. Friday, November 26, 2004
Project Mechanics is now an international site with the addition of www.projectmechanics.co.uk . Actually, it is just a domain that points to the same content a www.projectmechanics.com, only with a different template. I have been investigated some new tools lately which show some promise, among them are Sothink DHTML Menu. They include samples on how to hook it up to a database, their UI even helps you generate the necessary code. I was able to plug their menu into my site in about an hour, much of that playing with all the settings for the menu.
